RADON TESTING

Radon testing  within the home will identify radon gases – the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers in the United States. That’s according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). To put it simply, radon comes from the earth, just like uranium and other radiation emitting elements. Radon moves more easily through soft or porous rocks. Things that are porous act like sponges. Sedimentary rock absorbs and allows things to pass through them. SW Michigan and NW Indiana, sits on a large body of glacial deposits made of gravel, sand, and clay. Radon gas moves easily through the sedimentary rocks.

Outside – in the open air, the radon gas moves and dissipates into the air. But, put a house over the top of Radon, especially a house with a basement and you may have just created a radon trap defined by the National Research Council as a, “Serious public health problem.” In our area the highest level I’ve recorded is 62 pCi/L. The EPA says you have. major issue when it’s at 4.0 pCi/L. 

It’s a real thing in these parts. I wish more people would know the facts.
